Runny noses, sore throats, hacking coughs- it’s winter time again! There’s nothing more annoying than getting struck down by a nasty cold or flu. You ache, you’re tired, you feel foggy and dizzy…sometimes you aren’t able to do any of your normal activities when a bad one hits.
People have been searching for a cure for the common cold for ages, but nothing has yet been found. Before catching the virus you can try to prevent it from getting into your body or try treating cold symptoms if you need to go on with your daily schedule. The remedies available to do this are endless; everything from honey to drugs to vitamins and minerals. You’ve probably already got your own favorites.
When it comes to colds and flu the goal should be PREVENTION. These viruses are easy to pass on to other people, but you can greatly reduce your risk with just a few precautions. Flu shots are available in the winter for those who want some extra protection against the virus (although they do not guarantee immunity). Washing your hands frequently and avoiding people who are visibly sick are other easy steps you can take to hopefully stay virus-free.
The best thing you can do for yourself, however, is to not let the cold temperatures or stormy weather make you lazy about maintaining your overall health. Regular exercise, nutritious meals, and lots of rest will keep not only your body strong but also your immune system ready to fight off any viruses that do slip into your system.
