What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder?
Everybody worries so how do you know when you are suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder? GAD is characterized by excessive anxiety and worry about a number of events or activities. These worries will usually occur on more than half of all days over a long period of time (6 months or so). Now this is obviously a little difficult to understand, but the other main factor is uncontrollable worry. Those with GAD have chronic and prolonged anxiety that interferes with their daily lives. The fears experienced are irrational and are oftentimes projected onto others.
General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is the most common childhood anxiety disorder that exists. GAD is characterized by chronic, excessive worry and fear that seems to have no real cause. Those with GAD often worry about future events, social acceptance, family matters, school performance, etc. These worries dominate the child’s thoughts and cause them to feel tense and uneasy throughout most of the day.
