Symptoms of GAD

Anxiety is something that is commonly felt by individuals for several different reasons. Someone might have a final exam, a driving test, a huge presentation or job interview. However, when a person experiences anxiety and fear for no apparent reason, a person might be afflicted with Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

Individuals will experience physical symptoms like trembling, twitching, frequent stomachaches, headaches, muscle aches or tension, hot flashes, lightheadedness, and shortness of breath. There are also behavioral symptoms.

Symptoms include:

  • Easily startled
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritable
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Excessive worry about sleeping away from home
  • Fatigue
  • Constant thoughts and fears about safety of self and/or safety of parents
  • Refusal to go to school
  • Clingy behavior with family members
  • Unable to relax
