Suicide

Some people don’t say what they mean; others don’t mean what they say. You or someone you know may be one of those people. Both adults and teenagers may at sometime in their lives give up, stop trying, throw in the towel as they say in boxing terms. If they talk about how they’re feeling they may say: “I can’t take it anymore” or “I just can’t deal with all of the problems and the pain in my life.”

For some individuals, these expressions of helplessness and hopelessness are just words. Others, sadly, put their words into action…they kill themselves.

Every 16.9 minutes someone commits suicide. It is a tragedy that should not and does not need to happen. It is especially unnecessary for teenagers, who regardless of their real sadness, loneliness, and struggles, have so much to live for. As terrible as suicide is, it isn’t difficult to understand why people who are very old and sick, alone, or mentally ill take their own lives. Still, any life, old or young matters and should be valued. When the life of a young person is wasted, the tragedy is even more horrible. The suffering and sadness may be over for the victim of suicide, but his family, friends, and many other people who cared about him never get over the loss.

Not only is it a sad tragedy when a young life is ended; it’s dumb!! Think of what researchers have learned about WHY kids commit suicide:

  • fighting or not getting along with parents
  • breaking up with a girlfriend or boyfriend
  • a poor grade on an exam
  • physical or sexual abuse
  • loneliness…having no friends
  • low self-worth; thinking they’re not as good or talented as other kids

Look back at the reasons. All of the disappointments or unhappiness is TEMPORARY. All the problems are SOLVABLE.

Not getting along with parents, losing a girlfriend, failing an exam, being lonely and feeling lousy about yourself DO HURT BADLY. But they are not PERMANENT or even long-lasting hurts. NONE OF THEM are a good reason to waste a precious life.

If you, or someone you know has been thinking that the problems and pain you’re facing are just too much for you, STOP and THINK. SHARE here and now on this web site…

  • the problem you’re facing which seems so unbearable!
  • whether you realize it is only temporary pain you’re experiencing, not misery that will go on and on?
  • what you can DO NOW to get HELP NOW to lessen your pain?
  • why your life is much too valuable to waste? (ex. What if MJ had committed suicide because he had terrible grades, got cut from his high school team, and had only 1 friend?)
