What is Childhood Depression?
Childhood depression is similar to adult depressive disorder. Patients experience feelings of sadness, guilt, pessimism, low self esteem and generally slow or stalled reaction time to physical and emotional events. However, for children the effects can be much worse.

Childhood depression negatively impacts functioning during important periods of development (when self-concept and social skills are usually refined). The milder forms of depression are equally common in children/adolescents and adults. Today the rate of people diagnosed with depression is increasing, while the age of onset (age when the disorder is diagnosed) is getting younger.
