Treating Childhood Depression
It has been shown that children may benefit most from changes in their environment and family functioning (family therapy sessions are recommended). This can be helpful in milder situations and because children are still developing their behavior.

For more severe cases, treatments are similar to adult depression treatments. Antidepressants called SSRI's (Prozac, Zoloft) and psychotherapy (cognitive therapies, which aim to change problems in the way the patient thinks) are effective for older children/adolescents.
