Asperger's Disorder
Patients with Asperger’s have problems functioning in social situations. Because of the slow development in those skills, but they are quite gifted in other behaviors. This is part of what makes the disease so difficult to understand.  It leaves family and friends to wonder why the child is only disinterested in bonding.

There are times in everybody’s lives where we just don’t feel like being bothered. You either had a difficult day or just feel like having some alone time. Maybe your friend calls but you are too tired so you take a rain check. There are individuals who have no interest in hanging out regardless of how they are feeling. They simply have not developed the social skills necessary to make friends.

You could never imagine living without your friends. They are whom you spend most of your time with, tell secrets to, and can count on. Suppose you were told that from now on, you were no longer allowed to hang out with friends outside of school. You know that in school, there is little time for socializing because teachers are always telling you to be quiet. This world that I am describing, would be a very lonely one. There are people who never really develop social skills nor do they try making friends. They would rather not tell anyone their secrets or share their hobbies and interests with people.

You can only imagine how frustrating this could be for a loved one who does not understand why they can  not get close to such a person. There is help available so that these individuals can develop social skills and understand the need for human relationships and interactions.

"Going through a situation like that with a child is incredibly stressful for a parent. It’s not [their] behavior; it is something out of your child's control." For more on the many issues, which Heather has faced click here
