“Getting Back to Good”
So what do you do when burnout strikes?

Burnout doesn’t have to be forever – with some little changes you can get back to having fun doing the things you (used to) love doing. Don’t let burnout dominate YOUR life!

Take time for yourself. Make sure you pencil some free time into your planner. It’s just as important as anything else on your list, and it can really salvage your sanity to just chill out for at least half an hour a day. Listen to music, take up yoga, take a bath, or talk to friends, whatever you wanna do.

Prioritize everything. Is it really vital that you belong to 5 clubs and 3 community service organizations? Don’t do stuff just for your resume. College admission officers can smell an artificially bulked up resume from miles away.

Create ‘To Do’ lists. Write down everything you’ve gotta do. You know those things that don’t seem very important? Cut them! Just save the stuff that’s essential to your life and your goals.

Put stuff in perspective. Is it really worth so much stress to be on the swim team for one year just to make an impression on colleges? Do you really need to take that completely boring government class at school just to satisfy your parents?

Ask for help. Talk to parents, teachers, coaches, counselors, and friends. If you’re feeling burnt out and stressed out, don’t keep it to yourself! Get some support – explain to your parents WHY you’re cutting down on some stuff. They’ll be more likely to support your decision instead of insisting you keep acting like Super Achiever.
