Mood disorders affect the function of our brains. This impacts the way you feel, act and think. Often the mood swings, anxiety and aggression that teens show are not thought of as a behavioral or emotional disorder. Instead, parents and teachers often claim a child who suffers from a mood disorder (typically in combination with depression) is simply being stubborn or just being a typical teen. But more than 2000 out of 100,000 adolescents suffer from a mood disorder. If a mood disorder goes untreated, it can lead to severe depression and possibly suicide.
