Its eleven o'clock; do you know where your parents are? They sure do all they can to make certain they know where you are, right? Like at your friend's house instead of hanging out at your friend’s house when all of the “hotties” from school come over.
Curfew is one of your folk's most effective weapons. By saying, "I expect you to be IN THIS HOUSE BY" (such and such a time) every time you walk out the door, parents can rest assured you'll be home safe. When you do get there, do you find them waiting at the top of the stairs in their bathrobes make sure you haven't been doing things you shouldn’t? If they're not there waiting to do the full body search have they set up their own complex security system that sets off an alarm if you dare to come in even a minute past curfew time? What is the real reason that the "rents" always want to cut into your fun time?
Most parents insist on curfews because…surprise…THEY LOVE YOU AND WANT TO KEEP YOU SAFE...OFF THE STREETS AND OUT OF HARM'S WAY. It's not “snoopervision” that they are trying to enforce - its supervision. Maybe it’s hard for you to believe this now, but just wait ‘til you have your own kids!!!
Ultimately, you have the choice to respect your parents’ wishes or not. But if you can make curfew, your parents will learn to respect you more. Once you have their trust, you’ll find that they’re more relaxed when it comes to curfew and other privileges. Furthermore, would you want you little brother or sister running the streets late at night and risk getting hurt because they too don’t want to follow rules? They could try to model themselves after you, so set a good example.
