What are Social Boundaries?
Sometimes individuals discriminate against others based on their social status. Depending on the education level, economic status, family background and neighborhood where one lives, a person can encounter biases. These come from people who stereotype them for lack of knowledge about their differences.
Quick Facts
  • When the Titanic sank in 1912, one's social class was a deciding factor in whether or not you would survive. Women and children were helped into lifeboats first, then people were let off by class.
  • Social Stratification is the purposeful, imbalanced distribution of limited yet helpful resources and privileges in society. A more powerful social group will prevent an inferior party from getting what is rightfully theirs.

Social Class is a group with similar income, educational access, and jobs

Social Barriers are obstacles that individuals may face due to a lack of resources or education, unemployment or low income, the type of neighborhood in which one resides, mental/physical disabilities, single parenthood or laws passed on welfare and public assistance.

Social Exclusion happens to certain groups within a society.  They are left out of clubs, educational institutions, and sports teams…etc. and not afforded the rights to certain financial privileges or career opportunities. The reasons for exclusion can be lack of wealth, education, or access to material resources.
