Burning Out – Fast
Worried you’re burning out? Here’s what it looks like.

Burnout is what happens when you’ve been stressed out for a long time and you’ve reached the point of being totally exhausted – physically and mentally. The Texas Medical Association has fit it into three stages: stress arousal, energy conservation, and exhaustion.

Stress arousal: You might notice that you’re feeling pretty irritable, or picking up nervous habits.

Energy conservation: At this level, your body is trying to avoid using energy. You might feel tired, procrastinate a lot, or not care about anything.

Exhaustion: You might feel sad all the time or depressed, have stomach problems, get headaches, or just avoid everything.

Quick Facts

According to an international study by TNS in 2003:

  • 60% of all kids say they’re stressed out
  • 79% of 10-14 year old girls and 76% of boys reported being stressed out
