Healthy Body Image A person who has a good body image likes what he sees when he looks in the mirror, and is comfortable with the body that he has. He does not feel the need to change it for any reason whatsoever, especially not simply because he doesn’t look like the models in the magazines. Chances are he knows these models are not the norm and that their bodies cannot be attained healthily.
Unhealthy Body Image Other people, however, have a poor body image. A person with a poor body image is not happy with what she sees when she looks in the mirror, and is ashamed of her body. Oftentimes these feelings of shame are caused by the fact that her body does not look like those of the models, and thus she does not think it is beautiful. These feelings associated with a negative body image are untrue, however. There is not one specific body type, hair color, eye color, etc. that is considered beautiful.
Celeb Beauty Comes in all Packages Men like Tom Cruise, who is shorter than most men are, are considered attractive, as well as women like Queen Latifah, who is a bigger-bodied woman than most of the models seen in magazines.
Many celebrities have gone through the same poor body image that you might be going through now. They have overcome it, and they have moved on to have successful careers without fitting into the cookie-cutter mold of being blonde-haired, blue-eyed, and unhealthily thin. Liv Tyler, who embraces her body and enjoys having curves, has recently been in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as the romantic comedy Jersey Girl, without having to lose any weight for either. Not only that, but Men’s Health magazine named her the number two most naturally beautiful woman ever. How’s that for a beauty who doesn’t fit the mold?
