The First Kiss
They are all the things that you’re supposed to remember forever – your first kiss, your first date, your first boyfriend or girlfriend. Whether they were romantic, awkward, or completely terrible, these memories are burned into our brains for good.

So why do we remember these things? Maybe because we’re usually pretty excited (and nervous) about doing something different that marks a new phase in our lives. A lot of these big moments revolve around our crushes and love interests, but some “firsts” have to do with growing up or improving on a skill. Your first day of high school, the first varsity game you play in, your first award for your artwork – these are all events that you might want to always remember.

Of course, these aren’t always GOOD memories. If your first kiss involved a trip to the school nurse to disentangle your braces from your crush’s headgear, for example, you might be eager to forget the whole thing. In that case, when your friends recount stories about how awesome their first kiss was, your best bet is to relate your own horror story with humor (hey, it IS pretty funny!) And despite all the hype about your “first” everything, it’s important to put things in perspective. It’s not very realistic to expect your first date to go completely smoothly, or your first kiss to be flawless. Practice makes perfect, and you’ve got plenty of time to get things right.

If you’re looking forward to your first school dance, your first Prom, or even your first big basketball game, read on under “Defined” and “How To” for tips on how to prepare and have fun. Things might not always go according to plan, but you CAN be sure to make the most of your big moment!!
