The objectives for the WARM2Kids Mentor Training and Certification Process are as follows:
.) To gain the ability to formulate and maintain an objective understanding of teen and adolescent life. Mentors in training are given an in-depth assessment to the traditional and current social, emotional, educational, family, and physical issues teens and adolescents face today.
.) To gain the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the ever-changing teen language. Mentors will learn the communication skills needed to engage the mentee, maintain their interest, and deliver their message in a manner the mentee can truly umderstand. Honesty and sincerity, along with the ability to know when and how to listen, are key to the mentor's communication skill.
.) To gain the ability to define and/or establish a safe and healthy relationship with limits and responsibilities.
.) To gain the ability to deliver the WARM2Kids' messages for character development. The messages are specifically designed to motivate teens and adolescents to move to action - to help themselves and others.
.) To gain the ability to help resolve and problem solve teen and adolescent life issues in a non-judgmental and non-confrontational manner. Mentors should be able to provide direction and guidance to help mentees through real life issues. Trust and mutual acceptance are key to the mentor/mentee relationship, and the ability to help resolve and problem solve.
.) To learn how to use the WARM2Kids web product as an up-to-date resource in the ongoing mentor/mentee relationship.
