Home Be A Mentor Find A Mentor

It really doesn’t matter how old you are, what color you are, where you live or how much money your family has, as a HUMAN BEING, you want and need three basic things:

1. Somebody who cares about you and who you trust.
2. Something to do.
3. Something to look forward to.
Think about it!! Do you know anyone who is helping you meet these three needs? Who is it? A MENTOR is a caring adult who likes young people like you and who really wants to help you

  • By listening to what you have to say without judging you or always correcting you.
  • By building up your feelings of self-worth and getting you to try to be the best person you can be.
  • By guiding you to do better in school so you can go on to college or be successful at whatever career you choose for yourself.
  • By supporting you through whatever social or emotional difficulties you might have.
    • All wrapped up into one neat package, a MENTOR can change your life. He or she can be that somebody who cares about you and whom you care about and trust, as well as a role model in guiding you to find something worthwhile and exciting to do with your life. The trust, loyalty, honesty and affection which a MENTOR gives is like a mirror into your future. It makes it possible for you to look forward to living a happy, successful, and socially responsible life.

A MENTOR can be a teacher, coach, parent or grandparent, an adult friend, minister, priest or rabbi. Any caring grownup who enjoys spending time with you and sharing his/her experience and enthusiasm.

If you have not yet found a mentor, see if there is some adult in your life whom you can depend upon to listen, and care about you enough to share his/her time, effort and experience with you. If you ARE lucky enough to now have a caring adult “in your corner”, show that mentor by your words and your actions how totally important he/she is to your life.

Some people think that only poor kids, children that are raised in single-parent families, or teens with problems need a mentor. That is totally wrong! As was said before, all human beings, but especially adolescents, can benefit from a relationship with a mentor.
