Baby, How Blue Can You Get?
We all get the blues sometimes. It's unavoidable. Sometimes things just don't go our way, leaving us a mixed bag of unsettling emotions. But there is something we can do! Singing the blues can help to fight through the pain, and channel one's emotions into something enjoyable and uplifting.

Of course, you don't have to be sad 24 hours a day in order to sing the blues. All you need to do is remember the hard times you've experienced and try to recapture what you felt through song. That's exactly what blues musicians do. For them, blues music gets right at the emotions and heart of a situation that the performer has gone through. That does not necessarily mean that he or she is going through tough times right now, but it is a chance to express those feelings.

Music has always been used as a form of expression and communication. From the time the first caveman learned how to sing to the time the most advanced synthesizer drops a beat, music has done more than just sound good. Blues, like all other music, is a way to convey emotions. All of these people have gained fame for their blues sounds. Their voices, instruments, and lyrics get across personal messages to which many of us can relate. Whether we’ve lost something important or are just having a bad day, we all sing the blues every now and then. Some people just happen to do it for a living.

Blues originated in the 1800's and is a very close relative of jazz.  It has often been called "America"s Music" because it is one of the only forms of music that developed exclusively on American soil. When we think of blues, many of us think of sad lyrics and twangy guitars. While this is a part of blues, it is a musical form that takes on many other aspects. The blues have created many musical techniques that have since been carried over to many modern music genres like pop, rap, R&B, and rock. If you're a fan of modern pop, give blues a try. You may be surprised by what you hear.
