When most people think of sports, they think of basketball, baseball, football, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey - the sports most schools offer. Maybe there's even has a tennis team or a track team in your school. All in all, when the word 'sports' comes in to play, people think of teams they can join in school, or sports they can watch weeknights on television.
Individuals don't typically think of horseback riding, though. Whether for competition or just for fun, horseback riding is a sport that often gets overlooked because it's not offered through most schools. It is as much a sport as any other. There are horseback riding competitions all over the world, which are just as intense as the Super Bowl, although not as popular in the United States.
If you want to get some exercise but isn't exactly the stereotypical athlete, then horseback riding might be the sport for you. If the idea of running makes you want to take a nap, you'll be happy to know that most of the time a rider will be sitting down. But your legs will get a major workout, so don’t be surprised if you walk funny after the first few times on a horse - that's normal.
Horseback riding is a great way to get some fresh air and some exercise in a manner that's different and a lot of fun. If you love animals, hate to run, or just want to attempt something new, then horseback riding might be just the thing to try. Competitive or not, horseback riding is a great way to play a sport and be athletic.
