After a stressful day, exercise helps release tension. Ever feel like just running around the track isn’t exciting enough? Ever wonder fi there’s a better way to workout after school than that lonely treadmill in the gym? You’ve tried your school’s team sports and you’re still looking for something new. How about an activity where you can improve your body and still meet lots of friends?
Many teens turn to martial arts for motivation. There are programs offered to kids as young as 6, but other karate classes are designed for adolescent beginners. Investigate your area to find out what dojo (karate school) is right for you. You might want a basic class that only lasts for six months; you may decide to make martial arts a permanent part of your life.
Karate is self-defense, both physically and mentally. Not only can a student defend him or herself from an attack, the student also feels confident and ready to take on stressful or demanding tasks. Many adolescents and teens say that karate has taught them discipline and better concentration in school. Also, karate is a great workout that will allow you to feel safer around school bullies. But remember, that karate is self-defense, not offense so it should never be used to needlessly harm others.
