The book sounds very helpful for somebody who wants more information about different styles and how to pick one, etc.

This hotline keeps you up to date on the latest self-defense tactics, and provides legal protection and advice for victims who try to protect themselves, but then get blamed for being the aggressor. For some of the information, you have to be a member, but there is free information also. In cases of emergency, call 406-212-2313 for immediate help at anytime.
It has links to a couple different blogs about karate. Sometimes students send questions in and they are answered on the site. Again, it seems to be more for advanced students, but there is basic information about different styles as well.
It goes into some depth about picking a dojo and different karate styles.
That site is not extremely helpful to a newcomer, though. It mainly has tournament dates and information for people who already take karate. However, it has links to sites for federations of specific styles of Karate (Central Taekwondo Association, World Kobudokan Federation, US Ju-Jitsu Federation, etc.) and those sites are more detailed.
