Have you ever seen good things happen to people you don't think deserve them? Or have you ever been the witness to something really bad, like your friend's boyfriend lying to her or cheating on her? Doesn't it just make you mad when it seems like good things are happening to bad people and none are happening to you, even though you’re a good person?
Well never fear! Karma is the great equalizer. You've heard people say 'He's got bad karma' or 'That's good karma'. While you can't touch it or see it, karma is a pretty powerful force. It follows basic logic: if you do something good, something good will happen to you. But if you do something bad, something bad will happen to you.
You can't just do good things so good things will happen to you, though. That's the trick - if your motive is selfish, then it's not really a good deed. If you do volunteer work just so one day something good will happen to you to repay you for the time you spent there, then that's not really a good deed. If you volunteer there because you enjoy helping others and you like the people you work with, then that is a good deed. See the difference?
Karma is non-discriminatory; it affects everyone. You have chances to make good or bad karma every single day. If you live your life by this philosophy, then good things are bound to come your way (unless you keep doing bad things, then you know what’s going to happen). But just remember: what goes around comes around!
