This site is dedicated to “improving the educational experiences of young adolescents.” You can find recent news important to middle school education as well as results of research done on middle schools and their students. Click on “Advocate for Middle Level Education” to get involved with the legislation currently affecting your children and schools. You can also find contact information for the association. A great resource for anyone involved with middle school aged children.
One section of the mission statement of the PTA reads: “To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children.” Use this site to find contact information for the PTA, current news concerning parents and their school-aged children, how to get involved, etc.
Recognizing that violent acts can arise from minor disputes, this website provides helpful information on how to resolve conflicts in a productive way. You’ll find statistics on how teens feel about fighting, strategies for solving problems with other students, and all sorts of links for more info.
This is a cool site dedicated to helping teens cross social boundaries. The motto is “fight hate and promote tolerance.” They even publish YOUR experiences with trying to “mix it up” and post them to their site. To see what other teens are saying, go to the stories page and look for titles on popularity or cliques (there’s even a poem entitled “A Day in the Life of a Popular Person,” written by Brandon Barnett).
