Administration for Children and Families
This government site has information on foster care as well as adoption. Get answers to frequently asked questions or check out the laws and policies in your state.
Foster Care Children
This site has a lot of resources, particularly books, for people involved in foster families. Foster Care Children has a newsletter and the site is still expanding to cover all the questions people have about foster care. This is an excellent site to visit if you want information about Foster Care (or CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocate system). Go to “Foster Care Information” to find out about programs in your state.
Bill of Rights for Foster Children
Foster care providers, The Children’s Alliance of Kansas, and the state government drew up this bill of rights. It’s a great reminder of what your rights are as a foster child, and how you deserve to be treated.
FYI 3 and Foster Club
This is a great site for kids who are in foster care. Learn about your rights, read about role models who have experienced foster care, get answers to your questions, find out about scholarship opportunities for foster kids, enter contests, etc. Definitely check this one out!
National Foster Parent Association
This is the national organization which brings together foster care agencies, foster parents, foster children and potential foster families together. The site provides a lot of in-depth information about how to get starts, how to find training or financial aid near you. It has state by state regulations and a lot of the legal concerns you will face. This is the best place to go to for information on foster care.
The Rowell Foster Children’s Positive Plan
Victoria Rowell’s foster mother enrolled her in a ballet class when she was a child, and this simple encouragement provided her with great confidence and drive. Eventually Rowell became an actress, and she now has her own nonprofit organization to help foster kids experience the arts. Check out the program to see how you can get involved!
Survivors of the System — Foster Children United
This site is a place for foster children and former foster children to unite and share experiences and get support. You can tell your story, find out how others have coped, or find out about current issues and trends in foster care. There’s also an extensive list of resources to help you with schoolwork. (P, T)
