Everyone wants to be the best, but sometimes people forget that how one gets to the top matters just as much as what one achieves. As a sports player, the focus on breaking records, winning games or making teams can easily make you forget why you started out on that journey in the first place.
Think of your favorite athletes of all time- did they use steroids to be the best? Have you ever found out that one of your sports heroes used drugs to enhance his/her performance? What went through your mind when you found out? Are they still a hero to you? If you’re like most people, finding out that an athlete used any kind of drugs to succeed taints their reputation and takes away from their accomplishments. Do you ever want that to happen to you?
Steroids abuse is often about trying to change yourself into someone “better” but no drug will do this for you. Drugs might make you look physically different, act differently and make decisions you normally wouldn’t make, but in the long run what they really do is take away your ability to be the best YOU that you can be. They hide your true self and rob you of the chance to prove what you’re really made of. Self improvement comes with knowledge, accomplishment and self-awareness…drugs can’t give you any of these things.
As an athlete you will have to make the choice of whether you want to play the game honestly, using the strength and skills that you have built for yourself or risk doing serious damage to your body (and your reputation as a player) all for the sake of trying to be “The Best.”
