How to Avoid Coricidin and Help Others do the Same
The information you see here will showe you just how dangerous and stupid it is to take Coriciden! But all my friends are trying it you answer! Ignoring peer pressure and helping your friends to make healthy choices can seem like a real bummer. But, if you do it in the right way, it can be easier than you think.

Educate yourself and others
You may be abusing Coricidin right now, know someone who is or neither, Whatever - its important to know what you can do to keep yourself and your friends away from the drug. Learn the facts! Coricidin is for people who have colds not people who are trying to wind up stone cold dead. Yes, Coriciden can kill you. It contains certain dangerous chemicals which could take you on a trip from which you won't come back. These are the facts! They're not meant to freak you out but to just tell it like it is. Check out for yourself right here on WARM2KIDS or with some other source you trust about how this drug that looks as innocent as candy can totally hurt your body and your mind. Share what you learn with your friends. The lives you save could be yours and theirs.

Deal with peer pressure
Peer pressure can be a tough problem for many teenagers, it can often lead them down a destructive life path that they wouldn’t have normally chosen.  Avoiding peer pressure can be tough, but not impossible.  Being “cool” is obviously a major concern, and that your friends don’t think that you’re a loser, or a wimp, comes with that. You like your friends, and want to keep hanging out with them. You're afraid that if you don't do what they're doing you'll get kicked out of the group. Sometimes that is true but more often if you know how to say "no" without critizing them for doing drugs you can pull it off. If these are really friends, they should be willing to let you do your own thing. If you have to do what they do or want you to do to gain friendship, ask yourself this question: if you don't respect you enough to allow you to make your own decisions, are they really your friends? No matter how much you like them and want to be in their group is their frienship worth you bringing harm or trouble to yourself or even dying for?

Get yourself out of the situation
When a difficult situation comes up you have a few choices. You can blame your parents or your soccer coach and tell the kids doing drugs how much trouble you got into last time. You might just say your not in the mood, or you have a big test and you have to keep your mind clear for studying tonight. If possible, try to team up with another friend or two so you're not alone in refusing to do drugs. If you think its safe, you might want to simply say, "You know guys, since the last time, I've been reading up on this stuff and I don't want to have all those dangerous chemicals ripping through my body." Whatever you do, try to avoid giving a speech or preaching against drugs at the same time your friends are tripping on it. Share what you know in a calm, non-judgemental way before they start doing the drug, or, at best, sometime when you think their ears and minds are open enough to really listen and think.

Express concern to a friend
At some point try being really sincere with a friend you are concerned about, tell him or her how much you care for them. Maybe tell them a story that you read about someone who died.  If your friends care, they will listen, and the effect can often be astounding. Keep in mind, this advice can be used in relation to a number of different drugs, and its effectiveness often speaks for itself.

News Story

A high school junior in Florida took several Coricidin tablets one afternoon at her boyfriend’s house. Because it was sold legally as a cough medicine, she didn’t think there was any harm in taking a handful. She described the effects as similar to being high and drunk simultaneously. The “high” was a terrible experience. In the end, her abuse of Coricidin landed her in the hospital with liver damage and then in drug rehabilitation. A sheriff looking to find out more about this cold medicine went to local drug stores. A store clerk would claim to have just stalked the shelves with more Coricidin, but it would be empty. The tablets were flying off the shelves just as quickly as they were being placed there. This new phenomenon is frightening to many. When used improperly, Coricidin can cause liver failure, brain damage, heart attack, stroke, and irregular heart beat. The young girl warns teens and parents alike, just how easy it is to die from abusing Coricidin. She tells people to watch for unusual behavior because this popular new trend can drain the life from an unsuspecting individual. Nothing good can come from its improper use.
