Coricidin: The New (and Very Dangerous) Craze
Many teenagers have started using Coricidin (an over-the-counter cold medicine) for recreational use, but very few of them are fully aware of the real risks associated with using the drug for fun.

There is a saying, which implies that anything in excess is bad for you. Well, Coricidin is a perfect example.  It is an FDA approved drug, and is perfectly safe when used as directed.  It’s only when people don’t “use as directed” that it becomes a major problem.

Recreational use of Coricidin is often referred to as “skittling” because of the drug's similarity in appearance to candy.  Cold medicine was NOT designed for amusement’s sake, and as a result, any overuse of the drug can cause serious and sometimes even deadly side effects. Like sniffing glue or other stupid attempts at getting high, a brief and often inconsistent “trip” may come about by abusing the drug.  But vomit, nausea and many other much more serious side effects often follow that “trip.” The drug puts the user in an muddled state which makes activities like driving very dangerous.

So why do people use it?  Well, what teenagers consider “cool” is often difficult to balance with everyday life.  With Coricidin, peer pressure usually comes into play.  As with other drugs, your friends may be trying it and you may feel the urge to join in. The drug has an undeniable presence in today’s teenagers, and its abuse has expanded through extensive word of mouth.  Don’t be fooled, this drug is NOT SAFE.  There have been reported deaths linked to Coricidin. How would you feel then, especially if your best friend were to die only because you introduced him to the drug?  This drug contains extremely dangerous ingredients, and that is why it is so important not to exceed the recommended dosage. When you play around with Coricidin you are playing around with your life.
