Symptoms of HIV and AIDS

People with HIV or AIDS often have few, if any, visible symptoms and oftentimes these symptoms look like they are from a different illness, like the flu. Some of the symptoms include:

Some of the symptoms for people with HIV are:
- Diarrhea
- Unexplained weight loss
- Swollen lymph nodes in neck, groin, or under the arms
- Fatigue
- Changes in vision
- Rash
- Fever, chills, or sweating, especially at night
- Frequent pneumonias
- Shortness of breath
- Any other flu-like symptom, such as headaches and dry cough
- Red, brown, pink, or purplish blotches on or under the skin or inside the mouth, nose, or eyelids
Some of the symptoms for people with AIDS are:
- Coughing
- Shortness of breath
- Seizures or poor coordination skills
- Difficulty or painful swallowing
- Fever
- Coma
- Severe headaches
- Vision loss
- Mental symptoms, such as confusion and forgetfulness
- Nausea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting
