I Don’t Feel So Good: Symptoms of Leukemia
Leukemia has several symptoms. Since it is cancer that affects blood, symptoms can be experienced all over the body. It is important to remember that even if you are experiencing several of the below symptoms, it does not mean that you have leukemia – many infections and diseases can lead to similar discomforts. However, it is very important that you tell a doctor how you are feeling, so you can “let the healing begin” anyway.

Here are some common symptoms of leukemia.  Different symptoms appear depending on where the leukemia cells are located in the body:

  • Always feeling tired, both physically and mentally
  • High fevers and night sweats
  • Frequent infections
  • Easy bruising and bleeding
  • Small red patches under the skin, called petechiae
  • Swollen belly (from a swelling of the spleen, an organ that among other things stores blood cells and filters the blood)
  • Swollen or painful lymph nodes in the armpit or neck (lymph nodes are where white blood cells are stored)
  • Weight loss
  • Headaches

Remember, having these symptoms does not mean having leukemia!  Going to a doctor is the best way to evaluate your health as well as the health of your child.
