If you have athlete’s foot or toenail fungus, you’ll probably notice changes in the skin of your feet or your toenails.

The symptoms of toenail fungus and athlete’s foot are different, since different parts of the foot are affected. Here are the symptoms related to each condition:
Athlete’s Foot
- Burning and itching feelings in the feet.
- Peeling, dry, scaly, or inflamed skin on the feet (especially between the toes during the first stage of the infection).
- Itchy blisters in one area of the foot.
- Feet may smell bad (or worse than normal).
Onychomycosis
- Brittle, easily broken, or jagged nails (usually the toenails).
- Thick or discolored nails (yellow, green, or even black).
- At least one nail seems like it’s about to fall off, or already has.
- Nails are dull looking and have no shine.
- Material might gather under the nail and have a bad smell.
