HBV: Silent and Deadly
Hepatitis is more contagious than HIV but many people don’t even realize they are carrying it.  While a person may think that they are merely suffering from the flu, their liver may be under attack from this destructive disease.

Hepatitis B is one of the most common liver diseases out there.  How is it spreading so fast?  All over the world people are walking around thinking that they have caught a bad case of the flu, when in fact what they’ve caught is Hepatitis B.  The symptoms are the same but the affects on the body are very different.

Hepatitis B is a virus which attacks your liver- inflaming it and preventing it from doing all the good things a liver is supposed to do (like absorb nutrients and remove toxins from the blood).  A simple case of Hepatitis B can cause damage but will usually clear up within 6 months. A serious case can turn into a CHRONIC (long lasting) case which can lead to liver failure, cirrhosis (scarring of the liver, similar to the damage done by alcohol) or even liver cancer.

The other reason that it is spreading fast is because people aren’t being careful.

Hepatitis B is spread through bodily fluids…this means it should be easy to stop its transmission.  Practicing safe sex and staying away from drugs (or at the very least not sharing needles or syringes) would have prevented most cases of Hepatitis B from spreading.

Young people and teenagers are most at risk for an infection with Hepatitis B to turn chronic. This means that you, of all people, have to be the most careful.  Don’t let one spontaneous decision ruin your health for the rest of your life.  Stay safe; Stay virus free. Be an example to your loved ones by making healthy choices and having regular checkups.

“I was randomly getting nauseous and throwing up. I was constantly tired but didn’t know why. Finally, I went for my yearly physical and told my doctor. She gave me blood tests and discovered that I had Hepatitis B.”
