For some, Adderall has been a blessing. It helps them concentrate, to finish jobs they've started, and improves their listening skills. Unfortunately, since the drug has been on the market, it has become yet another prescription drug that people abuse. It is meant for people with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Because of the effects this drug has on the mind, many students are using it as a "study drug". It is becoming more and more common among high school and college students.
The most commonly believed myth about this new trend is that it's not dangerous. People think it's helping them and is as harmless as taking aspirin for a headache. Not true! There are side effects even for people who are prescribed this medication. What makes this even more dangerous is that many kids are drinking and/or doing other drugs along with the Adderall. Many also crush up the pills and snort them. This is the most dangerous way to take the drug because it gives your body the entire dose at once instead of taking the pill by mouth and letting it dissolve in your body.
Some nicknames for Adderall are "Ivy League Crack" and "Steroids for Students". Would you do crack or take steroids? Hopefully the answer is no. Then don't do Adderall. Instead, work on your time management and study skills. Try not to put things off until the last minute and you won't have to worry about staying up all night to finish that report or study for that final exam.
