What Are You Doing to Your Body?

By Kate Preissler

Most people try to lose weight because they want to look better and feel more confident but there is an even better reason why you should watch your weight and stay fit.  When your doctor tells you that you need to drop some weight, it’s not because they’re worried about your looks- it’s because if you don’t watch your weight, over time your body is likely to fall apart.  If you don’t stay within that healthy weight range- whether you weigh too little or weigh too much- you’re taking the risk of doing some very serious damage to your body.

You know how much your body aches when you have been carrying around a heavy backpack all day?  Imagine that your body was carrying all that extra weight around every single hour of every single day- that’s a lot of pain to put your body through!  Your body has to support and carry every single extra pound that you see on that scale.  Studies are now showing that ever 5 or 10 pounds of extra weight carried throughout your life can increase your risk for many diseases and complications.  If you have many more extra pounds on your frame, it’s going to take a hard toll on all your systems even earlier in life.

Only eating junk food or eating too much of any food will cram your body so full that your digestive track won’t be able handle it all for long.  All the “junk” in junk food- the fats, the cholesterol, the salt- also start to clog up your arteries, your liver and other vital organs.  The constant intake of unhealthy foods and weight gain will start to “gum up the works” in your body until almost nothing is running correctly anymore.  Complications like heart disease and diabetes can come on quickly and be very deadly.  The good news is that as soon as you start to clear out your system, get your body moving, and burn off excess calories there’s a very good chance that you can start to reverse the deterioration of your body and get yourself back to your healthy, happy self.

We know that losing weight is not going to be easy.  For some people it’s downright scary.  When you’ve lived your whole life one way it can take a lot of strength and courage to make the changes necessary for getting your body back into tip top shape.  When all the people around you are pigging out on pizza, fries, soda and all that tempting deliciousness it can seem like the hardest thing in the world to say “no thanks.”  It takes work, self-discipline and usually a shoulder or two to lean on…but if you don’t take control of your body now, you may be paying for it the rest of your life.

The Licorice Diet??
Coming soon…A small group of Italian scientists performed a study with which they concluded that black licorice- eaten in small amounts- may reduce a person’s body fat. Why? They say because the strong small suppresses appetite.
Atkins and Your Heart

Followers of the Atkins diet are now contesting that they traded in their excess fat for heart disease and clogged arteries. Rachel Huskey, a 16 year old on this diet, died in her class from heart arrhythmia. Jody Gorran had an artery almost completely blocked that required surgery to fix. These people and their families are saying that the high-fat, high-protein diet is the major cause of these problems. For the full story: Click Here
