People choose to eat organic foods for many different reasons. Some just like the taste or are attracted to the positive health benefits. Others are committed to a lifestyle that has a low impact on the environment. Yet others might buy organic foods because they believe in supporting small farmers and putting their money back into the local economy.
Organic food for some people can be intimidating. Is it just a trend? Is it the same as being a vegetarian? A vegan? Do I have to change my life? The fact is, though, that organic food can have whatever place in your life that you want. You don’t need to change your life and you certainly don’t have to give up meat. Think of organic food as just another option out there for new tastes and for health.
In the past, eating organic food was a luxury- it was hard to find and oftentimes much more expensive. As organic eating becomes more popular, however, prices are dropping and most grocery stores carry a variety of organic products. Many areas (even cities!) also have organic farmer’s markets, co-ops, or local farm stands that provide fresh local organic goods.
Other people who become very committed to organic food may choose to grow their own. Organic gardens, composting systems, even home chicken coops are becoming more and more popular all over.
