NOT Ready and Waiting
You’re taught to say ‘NO’ to drugs and “save yourself” for marriage but ultimately you have to do what is right for you. Your mental and physical health have to be a priority. Diseases, pregnancy and the social and emotional consequences of an intimate relationship are serious matters. Make an informed decision about sex and your body – learn about ABSTINENCE!

Nobody’s perfect – not you, your friends, your teachers, members of your family – no one! Everybody makes mistakes. Unfortunately, some mistakes are so huge that they can totally change your life – for the worst! One of these huge mistakes is having unsafe sex. Not only can you become pregnant even the first time you do it, you are also at risk for getting sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS, gonorrhea, etc. Sure the word is out that everybody’s “doing it”, but that not really true. Statistics show that more than 50% of teens are NOT having sex and that number is growing. The reasons given for this new trend toward abstinence is that more and more preteens and adolescents realize that while condoms and other birth control measures lessen the risk of getting pregnant, they do not in any way minimize the danger of contracting a sexually spread disease.

Abstinence, remaining a virgin until marriage, is the only way to totally protect yourself against the risks of unsafe sex. Sure everyone talks about having sex, and the movies, magazines, and TV shows are full of it. That’s probably why so many kids think of sex as a natural part of being an adolescent, what with all those hormones raging in side of them. But not only are the physical health risks of sex at too early an age being warned against by those who support abstinence; the emotional toll, how a teenager feels about him or herself, about parents finding out, about the kind of relationship he or she can now expect from the sex partner and of course, the constant worry about a pregnancy and other health risks can be very heavy. In the last 12 years 33% less young women has unwanted pregnancies. Chances are that the increased number of both teenage girls and boy CHOOSING ABSTINENCE has helped reduce the number of pregnancies.
