Summer Jobs and Internships
Getting your first job is a great experience.  But how important are your first jobs?

You’ve just finished high school, or maybe you’ve just finished your junior year.  What will you be doing this summer?  Well, many high school students and graduates don’t realize the importance of summer jobs.  They shouldn’t only be about money, there is a lot more to think about.  Summer jobs and especially internships can prepare you for college, and give you a leg up in experience.  This can be particularly important when you are applying for jobs in or after college.

Not only will you be gaining much needed experience to prepare you for the so-called “real world”, but you will also be exercising your independence and showing your parents how responsible you have become. There is something different and special about buying new clothes, CDs or putting money into a savings account of your own. It feels nice to know that you worked hard to get and deserve your belongings. While it is perfectly natural to feel scared and nervous on your first day at work, it gets easier, you can meet a lot of good people and it can be really fun all at the same time.

Now that you have a job, there are a few things you need to know to get the most out of your experience. Having a job is a right, and with each right comes a tremendous responsibility. You have the responsibility to take you job seriously. Have fun, but show up on time, do what is asked of you and more. Show that you care about the job and that you deserve the privilege and freedom to hold that job.

Do thinking working as a teenager is important?
Yes, it builds experience and character (and your wallet!).
No, these are the days for fooling around and fun!
Maybe, it depends on your families' financial situation.
