High school can be four of the greatest years of your life. You can make awesome friends, good memories, and at the end you get a diploma that will help you get into college and will help you get a good job in life. Some classes might be boring and homework is a drag but it’s worth it, if not just to see your friends.
But high school isn’t for everyone. Some people need to work during the day instead of going to class. For others, it’s just not the right fit. High school just doesn’t seem like the place for you. Then you start to think there’s no hope of getting into college, or getting a good job, without a diploma. What do you do then?
If you’ve seriously considered dropping out of high school and talked to at least a guidance counselor as well as your parents about your decision, there is still a way for you to get a good job or go to college. This way is called getting your GED.
If you decide to drop out of high school to pursue other options in life, you can get your GED whenever you like once you’re 16 or older. A standardized test that is seen by almost all colleges and employers as the equivalent to a high school diploma, a GED can carry you as far in life as a high school diploma.
But don’t be fooled—this is not an easy path to follow, just like high school isn’t. While it may be the only option for some people, getting your GED requires a lot of time and effort put into studying and preparing for the test. It costs money each time you take it, but once you pass it’s good for three years.
So if you’re thinking high school may not be for you, look into this other option and decide which one you think will best help you in the future. High school has a lot to offer, but it’s not for everyone. Getting your GED ensures that you will be given the same opportunities for college and employment that your classmates will be given.
