You saw "Coyote Ugly" and thought it looked really cool. Perhaps you like meeting new people and listening to their problems. Or maybe you just like mixing different liquids together and making new drinks. Being a bartender may be a good job choice for you, but it's not what it looks like in the movies at all.
You need your license to be a bartender in most states, which takes time and money. But you can earn that back, and then some, in no time at all as a bartender. And those tricks you seem them doing don't come naturally. It's take practice to become that good, and a lot of dropping plastic bottles. You've got to memorize not only the recipes for drinks but also what your bar serves. It's not as easy as it looks.
As a bartender, you mix and serve alcoholic beverages but you're responsible for your customers. Serving to minors, because it is illegal, will get you in serious trouble, so always check IDs. Just because you can serve at age 18 doesn't mean you can drink before you're 21. As for your legal aged patrons, you have to know when to cut them off so they don't endanger themselves or others should they decide to drive home. If something does happen to them, YOU are held responsible and can lose your job, or worse.
Bartending is a serious job, one that comes with responsibility and quick decision making skills. But if you think you’ve got what it takes, bartending can pay off in more ways that one. This can be a lucrative, fast-paced and exciting job where you'll learn new skills, meet new people, and keep up with the rush. If that sounds like fun to you, then try your hand at bartending!
