The word “warm” has several different meanings. The dictionary explains that physical warmth is what gloves give our hands on a cold day, or what a blanket provides at night. These coverings give warmth from the outside. Emotional and spiritual warming gives comfort inside of us. They are the feelings of affection, gratitude and pleasure one person has within his power to give and to receive.
The meaning of WARM in WARM2KIDS has an added meaning. Together the four letters of the word remind us that WE'RE ALL ROLE MODELS.
Parents are role models, kids are role models, teachers are role models, and celebrities are role models. Everyone is. It's like we're all on Candid Camera. Somebody else watches everything we say and do, and the example we set, good or bad, gets copied.
If you have a younger brother, sister, cousin, or friend, he will probably never come right out and tell you how much he looks up to you and wants to be like you. But, it’s true. YOU are his role model, the person he wants to copy.
All of us, young and older alike, are role models to someone. People who are good role models make those who want to be like them happier, healthier, safer and more productive. Those who are bad role models lead their followers into trouble.
The poem, below may give you a clue about the kind of role model you are: Is anybody happier because you passed his way? Can anybody say that you spoke to her today? The day is almost over; what kindness have you spread? When you should have stopped to help have you run away instead?? Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that's slipped away? That you helped someone you knew to have a better day? Is a single friend rejoicing over what you did or said? Is someone whose hope was fading now with courage look ahead?
Did you waste this day on nothing, or was it wisely spent, as you left a trail of "caring" to every place you went.
THINK ABOUT IT: What kind of a day was it for you? Good…Ok…Bad
What kind of a day was it for other people in your lives? Parent…Teacher…Friend
